Nick Mangold, former Jets football center and seven-time Pro Bowl selection, was my larger-than-life judge in a tailgating cookoff at last Sunday’s Jets game – – and I’m thrilled to say that I won. My amazing portable pizza oven (thanks and a shout-out to Roccbox) and decades of dedication to BBQ paid off big time!
Not that my competitor’s cioppino – a flavorful Italian fish stew – wasn’t delicious, it was, but most folks don’t think of cioppino when tailgating.
BBQ style chicken pizza, fresh out of a 1,000-degree portable pizza oven that just happens to be green, was the crowd pleaser. Even Chris Johnson, Chairman and CEO of the New York Jets came by for a slice.
The whole event was videotaped by the Jets’ broadcast team and you can watch it here.
And in case you’re wondering, yes, I am happy to share the recipe – just send me an email at sjs@sjslawpc.com. The crust was made with a high protein Italian pizza flour and the BBQ sauce is my own special blend.
The Jets and a BBQ tailgate cook-off with my family members, all in one day? That’s my idea of a perfect Sunday!
Happy Thanksgiving!
